I sewed it on, the same way you would banding. I think you used to be able to find banding like this. I'm almost sure I've seen it, but now that I was looking for it, no. So, the Cascade Fixation yarn to the rescue.
The yarn has darker blues and green in it, and the brown is light so I'm still not sure if I like how it works with these colors
but, I do prefer it to a banding of the cotton knit itself.

Well in the photos the colors look really good - I was just thinking how good a match it is. It looks GREAT to have that neat an edge.
Thanks, I keep going back and forth still, but the more I look at it the more I like it.
