9-30-2008

Today, the intention was to knit a facecloth using modular knitting.
It was meant to be square.
I knew something wasn't going right, but wasn't sure what until about 10 rows before the end.
By the time I figured it out, I figured that it would be easier to finish it this way
and start over tomorrow with another try.

It does definitely cover my face this way, though!

9-29-2008

So, after yesterday, the momarazzi said that my endeavors to make the facecloths will make her do a big batch of face wash and maybe some sugar scrub to sell.
Well, if that's the case, then there will be a need for more facecloths.

After a trip to several thrift stores for containers, I made another facecloth with some design modifications.
1. Actually big enough to cover my face
2. With a drawstring to be able to be a container for the face wash bottle

Then, I wasn't as happy with it as I thought, so further design modifications in a stripedy cotton:

It's its own purse!

While watching the game, I made a facecloth.
While being spoiled by the use of sugar scrub and oil face wash, there is a need for washcloths/facecloths that match the texture and are sturdy enough for the use.

So, I didn't make anything yesterday. Today just a funky leather strip headband and bracelet.

I like the way it seems like chain.

I must be working through some weird sleeve issues.

So, today I made a somewhat Victorian looking sleeve

It's all kind of fishnetty with the bell sleeve

With a seam up the inside.

Don't know why, but that's what I made today.

9-24-2008

It hadn't happened in a while, so I should have expected it, but it was still annoying to be woken up at 5am this morning by a dress that was bugging me to make it.
"C'mon, if you start now you could be done by 10am"
-No, sleep
"But I'm just a simple sundress, I won't take any time at all"
-Ha! "simple" means it will take all day
"But I'm different, I promise"
-Okay, since obviously I'm not going to be able to get any sleep until you're done

Several hours and a trip to Walmart later,
(oh yes, it had forgotten to mention before I got out of bed that it would insist on being custom dyed. Stupid manipulative dress.)
we have what may possibly be the cutest dress ever

Of course it wanted its picture taken by the flower bed.

The back

Detailing at the waist

Simple neckline

The green turned out so grass-like and the bodice was so structured and clean looking I decided to do a more organic kind of hem (that's the new way to say intentionally frayed)

And of course, it twirls.

Some of you may ask where the pocket is.
This dress is so cute it doesn't need pockets, it has other people hold it's stuff for it.

Today was a day for workout shorts.
I only had 2 pairs, and wanted more.
So, reversible workout shorts with pockets that work on both sides!

This is the subdued side

Pocket at stripe

Stripedy side, with faint plaid pattern because the second layer of fabric is the same just cut on the 90 degree angle

Pocket!

So, we finished the planter bed today.
Then I made an intentional 3rd eye sleep mask

The design is supposed to look like a closed eye.

I need to work on that.

9-21-2008

Today was more work on the planter bed, the first course of block was laid.
Then, there was enough time to make something before going to family dinner.
So, I give you a sleeve.

it goes from just above the elbow, kind of like a hands free glove

Part of the reason was to play with this lace pattern i've been toying with

a closer view of the pattern as so helpfully modeled by the momarazzi's water bottle

Tiny movements:

this is choker # 2, with more adjustability, the other one only had 2 lengths, this one has 5.

9-19-2008

Today was not a typical day.
The momarazzi has been growing things as you can see on her blog
Well, some of the things are starting to grow and will need an outdoor bed.
She wanted a bed about 2 feet high so that it would be easy to sit on the wall to work in the planting bed.
Well, in typical fashion, we decided to go for the overkill.
We will lay the block later this weekend, but we decided to pour the footer first.

There was already some concrete on what will be the front, so we formed up for the sides and drilled in for some re-bar that we will set in front and the sides.

Then, with some technical assistance from her HTH and a bit of concrete mixing pointers and labor, we poured the concrete.

So, throughout the day, about half before the trip to Lowe's to get everything and about half after we finished, I made a sock.

So, footers and something for feet all in one day!

9-18-2008

ok,
so, today's thing requires a little explanation.
no, actually it probably requires a lot of explanation, but you will get a little.

I had decided to make a sleeping mask.
I was mainly using it as something to work on a couple of techniques, and why not.

Well, I got one side done and was starting the other eye and
suddenly thought, well, this would be perfect if you sleep with one eye open.

And so it was born - the one-eyed sleep mask.

and it is reversible!

Oh wait, maybe it's really a sleep mask for your 3rd eye.
Yeah, that's it, a 3rd eye sleep mask.

And now for something completely different:

A cool hat for a hot head:
I like winter hats, I like any excuse to play with hats, but most places I choose to live there's no way you would ever need a hat.
So, why not make one ventilated?

There are two separate areas of open-work in the body of the hat

The overall shape is kinda 20's cloche style, or somewhat reminiscent of
Mushmouth

9-14-2008

So, today's thing is more about the detail than the overall piece.

It is a little t-shirt, but I wanted to figure out a collar solution.
So, I knitted a collar.

I sewed it on, the same way you would banding. I think you used to be able to find banding like this. I'm almost sure I've seen it, but now that I was looking for it, no. So, the Cascade Fixation yarn to the rescue.

The yarn has darker blues and green in it, and the brown is light so I'm still not sure if I like how it works with these colors

but, I do prefer it to a banding of the cotton knit itself.

Feeling like fall shirt #2

Bright turquoise stretch velour
Silly little v neck

Super long sleeves
What more could you want out of a sweatshirt!

Inspired by the weather in Flagstaff and a sweater that I had when I was about 12:

So, it's a little to warm to wear here yet, without cranking the a/c down

Little bit of a "V" neck

And, of course, long bell sleeves
(What everything that doesn't have super secret pockets must have)
