7-31-2008

So, the first thing I wanted to check out today was if my computer and embroidery machine were still on speaking terms. They were!
Flutterbys and dragonflies
The front of the top - with the drawstring tied in front.
Back with drawstring tied in back. Adjustability!

7-30-2008

So, although what I made today is a dress, what I really made was my computer talk to my sewing machine. I have a really cool sewing machine that does embroidery. That is, if you can get the software to install properly. Well, that took about 5 hours, but, now it works.
The embroidery design is a little abstract. It actually is the same design embroidered 9 different times. I don't know why, it's just the way I roll.
So, after I got the embroidery done I decided I wanted a simple dress. I think I need to re-evaluate my definition of simple. Simple should in no way include an hour of pleating. Simple should not include full lining. Yes, I must re-evaluate simple.
Super secret pocket, skirt style!
Yes, I did attempt ballet moves. No, I did not successfully complete them, but I didn't fall, either, so I say I win!

So, with the box of random silks, I got several pieces that were big enough for a full shirt or skirt. I decided to make this wrap top/jacket for MM of the triangle purse.
This is the front, note repetition of triangle theme.
The back has a bit of a triangle theme too.
This is with the top on, with the flash so that you can see it a bit better.
Here's the back with it tied. Now it is off in the mail. Hopefully it works well. I'll let you know when I do.

Today was a re-purpose/rework kinda day. This dress started life as a men's shirt. I reworked it into summer dress

The shaping is - guess - yes, you got it, adjustable, thereby adding this to my ever-expanding line of adjustable clothing.

So, on to finish making dinner and possibly more of a sock!
Update:

The rest of the sock, and Bear whiskers. She's become quite a camera hog recently. Now on to begin the other sock!

7-27-2008

Today I made most of a sock. Not most of a pair of socks, just most of a sock. Really, just over half of a sock. Not even a knee sock, just a hiking sock. Yes, I know, it is my first unfinished product and I had actually toyed with the idea of taking Sundays off, but, it is also my first most of a sock that I have ever made, so I'm pretty excited.
Bear wanted to put things into perspective - this may be most of a sock, but it is also less of a ball of yarn and she would like to protest.
Maybe I should have started with a child's size sock and then I could have gotten one done today, maybe.

So today we try draping!

Yesterday I got in my box of random silk and chiffon that I had ordered. I thought that I would work with the silks first, but after sorting through them I decided I really wanted to try doing something drapey. Since Momarrazzi is out helping her HTH today you will have to make do with the timer photos.

Ok, so you can't see any of the detail at all in this picture. Oh well, hopefully I'll post more photos later.
For once, this is an intentional design detail! Actually planned, if you can imagine that. Again, there is much detail that you just can't see. I'm going to have to fire this photographer!
The Momarrazzi Returns!

Here is a closeup of the front, you can see the draping a bit better.

Here's the side of the back where the closure of the chiffon is.

Here is the back, showing a bit of the detail

Oh, and this shot shows the skirt that I made while waiting for the return of the momarrazzi. So I did get to use the silk after all!

So this morning I woke up early and made my thing and then forgot to blog!

We were going shopping at the farmer's market and I needed a bag, so I made one.

Note: this bag has been weight rated for "Fustus."
See Fustus?

I probably couldn't carry more than that anyway.

7-24-2008 part 2

So, I still haven't figured out how to print on mediums longer than 11", but I did come up with a sort of solution

I added leather on the back and that way it can lap over and close as well.
The book is just waiting for paper. And it may have to wait for a while.

I think I will have to perfect my drying technique. At least I'm in a place where the air has less moisture content than the globs of paper.

Maybe it will dry overnight. Maybe tomorrow's project will be looking up a way to make paper.

Gifty Gog - not quite as fuzzy and the colors are not me, but hey, what are you gonna do. Sometimes you choose the cuteness and sometimes it chooses you.
This is what I was working on yesterday, and will go back to working on today. I am printing photos on fabric to make journals. Today's mission is to figure out how to get my computer to allow me to print the 8.5" x 24" size that my printer says it can handle.
Until then:

This is one of my random photos from being on the street car. It is sideways, but looks pretty cool that way.

Oh yeah, other mission is to make my own paper. This is just paper that my sister had, but I plan on making paper from the shredded remains of a magazine that someone viciously subscribed her to. Will the anonymous person who subscribed her to "W" please stand up?

This one is tied with hemp cord, because I have it. Depending on the fabric, photo and paper I will probably be using many different things. We shall see.

The cuteness, oh the cuteness is almost unbearable. I just have to take a moment and let you know that the cuteness of the things that are coming out of my brain are starting to scare me. I don't usually do cute, it's not my style. At least I didn't think so. So, on with the cuteness of the day. So, today I made a polka-dotted party dress.
I think I have to go buy some manic panic and dye my hair purple to compensate.
So the dress can dance even if I can't.
The problem with the cuteness is that it often induces giggles.

An intentional Gog
So, with the original Gog having become the mascot of my sister's and my drive, and the overall cuteness of it, I thought I should make one on the drive back as well. This one I tried to get to match Bear.
Intentional Gog and color inspiration. For some reason Bear doesn't seem to think that the Gog is related to her. I don't know why. It's practically a spitting image. Ok, maybe it looks nothing like her, but there's always intentional Gog #2 that can happen.
One is the loneliest number a Gog'll ever do.

Intentional Gog and Proto-Gog. At least the Gogs can be friends.

7-20-2008

For some reason I'm having a problem uploading the picture, but the thing today is a very small gris-gris bag. It's knit out of ribbon, raffia and hemp. It's to keep all your small things.

finally got the picture to load - very small things to be kept in this bag.

In the realm of all things adjustable - skirt!!

The fabric I think is from, well, I'm not sure.
Death if you read this, thanks again for the fabric in 1991.

Infinite adjustability

7-18-2008

Today's thing is a triangle purse. It is my second triangle purse. The first one was one of the 4 things I made the first day and never took a picture of. Considering I made one before, you might think that I would know what I was doing. Not so much. This one ended up pretty pointy with the characteristic design features that always come about when I mess something up. But, it is MM's pointy purse and the world can always use more triangles. Even if they aren't perfect.

The momarrazzi was waiting on me to finish to get Neopolitan Mochassippis. Momarrazzi takes many much pictures when caffeine deprived.
(Side note, in typing made a spelling error and then thought of the term "caffiend" which would very well describe MM, the Momarrazzi and me.)
MM and the pointy purse

Bringing more triangles into the fashion world, one purse at a time.
I need another nap.

Not much sleep, so not too complex a thing today. Just a simple shirt.
